The roadworks will take place from Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17:00. Due to the high traffic volumes and risk of increased congestion along Klipfontein Road during the day time, sections of the road works has been scheduled for night work between 18:30 and 05:30.

The following roads will be resurfaced in Gatesville:

• Klipfontein Road between Johnston Road and Hazel Road

• Klipfontein Road between Hazel Road and Yusuf Gool Boulevard

• Carnie Road between Klipfontein Road and College Road

• Rylands Road between Carnie Road and Hazel Road

All affected roads will either be closed in half widths or full widths between 07:30 and 17:30 depending on the nature of the traffic. Roads will be opened to traffic outside of these hours. 

The following work will be done and may require evening or weekend work where necessary:

• Manholes and catchpits will be raised where required, to make flush with road

• Replacement of damaged manholes, catchpits where required

• Road pavement and surfacing maintenance

• All existing road markings shall be referenced and reinstated with road marking paint

‘Our Roads Infrastructure Management team in the Athlone district will be very busy resurfacing roads in Gatesville over the next few weeks. Residents can look forward to enjoying the new roads which will improve road safety conditions and the quality of commuting for all road users in the area. Temporary road closures will be in place to accommodate some of these works, but I ask that road users please remain patient with our teams as they try to complete the job as efficiently as possible. This is part of our ongoing efforts to maintain Cape Town’s vast road network which is one of our biggest assets,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Commuters are advised to be cautious and to slow down when approaching the areas where work is under way.
